What A Great Day For Science. last year I teased a student film I did just before Christmas with this photo, and here it is. A Sci-Fi CGI thriller short with me as the non-comedic lead. This film is loaded with visual effects and creative Cinematography. A must see if you are into Science with good intentions gone wrong. Okay, My excuse for lack of updates this time is... Truth is have none, but management of time is well on it's way! It's Friday (FRiday)and I didn't go out, I just went for audition, came home, and watched the Classic Jim Carrey movie Liar Liar and I never make time just watch movies. Anyway to see this film just keep reading... I saw a casting call for a Scientist, male for a Sci-Fi Thriller on FB, I commented "you had me at Scientist" and sent them my details. I was selected to be the lead, Kyle Kimura, a Japanese scientist with a home lab, I assume that much is legal, anyway me and my associates wanted to change the world... enjoy, see you at the performance review below! I love the cinematography, the crew seems to be inspired by J.J Abrams lens flare like that seen in Star Trek, and they were not afraid to push it, editing and transition were sexy jumping back and forth in time, although I do think the night scenes in the alley in the start could be darker as it was shot in the late noon. Unfortunately there was no make-up, and I'll be honest and say that night and possibly the night before I was out clubbing (bad jack) and was passing out during scene setups. Casting wise I honestly don't think we look like mature scientists but what's great is that we still did it. The DOP had a fairly Extraterrestrial hunter geeky room which he further converted into a bedroom lab, we shot for several hours in that tiny unventilated and extremely hot room, and this can only be done with a cast and crew that clicked. Props were spot on with test tubes of colored water and an Eye Relaxer machine which shows coloured lights focusing in and out (apparently does not give any benefit for the eyes). Aside from the awesome titles and passable CGI, Music was given good attention. Now about my acting, in case you didn't know I am a more eclectic performer with strengths in improv and comedy which I can use to drive each other so this role was a bit different for me. They even incorporated the part where I improv'd in the audition where I call Laura on the phone before digging up files. I believe I deliver the serious tone in most moments particularly when I'm not talking but slip up with that Jack* look and energy often which throws everything out of filmic illusion. Not often do I actually land roles with more serious tones so I generally never got to push that side. Director friend of mine Mehran knows this off the bat and has given me the simple advice of, don't let that Jack come out. I took this down on a post it and stuck it above my room light at the door, seeing it every time i switch the light or operate the door should keep the bastard in. My personality is a burden that will allow me to achieve things I would otherwise be unable to... Meaning my positive attitude and upbeat vibes keep me going where others would flake be shaken or stir'd, it has got me to where I am, but it can cripple me where I stand, making walking further difficult. Performance Rating: 7/10
Movements were good, Expressions were mostly there, the laugh part of the montage was not on, Lines could have been a bit clearer, perhaps get a real Japanese accent (although I only found out I was Japanese on the second shoot day/out door scenes) I better bed now, have an acting class tomorrow. Keep pushing your limits and abilities, like batman, batman's a scientist.
