It's been awhile since I had anything substantial to post for the Pirate gig or Jak Arrows as my pirate ego, but now I will make it up with some Promo Photos and video Yarh! The most notable thing is taking slaps in this performance, which would total to about 50 or so I'd say. The audience loves it and I honestly don't have feelings there any more... do your worst ladies. Performance Rating 8.5/10 perhaps more projection and better pirate accent... otherwise the loud Aussie Bogan thing does work. And while the Promo is apparently still on.. here is the banner to take you to their FB page! and below is the promo video for our promo performance.

Moved out from my friends for a few days shy of a month and then back in after getting sick and then now I'm sick with something else, though this time it doesn't stop my performance as much. I like blogging but I suck at maintaining it :( its obviously a time management thing, I always think there is enough time, and generally live with no deadlines personally set, I leave that to the people who hire me to set my limits, is that a terrible way to live? Between this entry and the last I even forgot to confirm one night to be extra and forgot to do a scheduled audition - to think positive about that is it must be a sign that I am actually busy and this is forgiveable...at least to myself. Still need to keep Passion in check. Pressing matters aside... Swensen's 33rd Anniversary featuring me! see above for the print and train media and the TVC. shot early last month, it was a very fun and pleasant shoot, I was allowed to snap pictures (which I have yet to process) and I made friends with reps of the client and food artist! Speaking to the client one on one, she mentioned that initially I Was not short listed as my profile pic didn't really go with the guy they already selected, but after seeing video from my audition, they were like, "he can act" and then had to have this amazing face puller :P feedback like this really means a lot to me, to any performer I hope. I also got this titbit at the end of the shoot to keep my ego at bay during the day. They fed us well, the best way swensens knew how, we were spoiled as talent even compared to the Heads of crew, unfortunately i was not in the appetite to be spoiled that day :( it's not a lead role and I am a bit out of focus in the print, it still is a slow and steady way to the top pattern that I have.. soon. had my 26th birthday, marking it as my first birthday out of Syd and longest time away from home. GO ME. but after more than 6 months, Its time for me to swing back at what might feel like a holiday to Australia. but till I get that flight booked, off to audition for.. .something Performance Rating 9.5/10 perhaps my voice over could be better? Last month I did a shoot for mediacorp Ch5, abit of a mystery shoot as I did not kno what it was for and agent just sent me early one morning. Looking at clapperboard i saw it was for Unnatural a re-enactment docu-drama about un-natural deaths, not super natural, just un-timely deaths. a month turn around is amazing for TV kinda like neighbors and home and away I guess. they even SMS'd me the morning that it was going to AIR and the next day it was online on catch up MSN. you can view the episode here at this LINK Been Really busy lately with moving home "for Liberty and not Banishment" Also done the biggest shoot of my life for a well known Ice cream pallor. a local remind you what channel or Mediacorp interstitial. A short for a friend probono and assisting some lovely kids party mascots and also I was born yesterday. More updates to come soon! Where's Jako - Equal Employment TAFEP TVC my biggest Extra début ever - honestly it cant get any more cameo than this. I appear 5-6 times in this TVC, see if you can Spot me xD Solutions below. its not casting fail, it's Equal Opportunity Hijaking Solutions. Scene1 in the glass meeting room 00:09 Scene2 behind chasing the Skirt 00:17 Scene3 In the other glass Meeting room 00:32 Scene4 behind the monitor of the pregnant lady 0038 Scene5 Ditto" as above Scene6 Standing next to the Lead senior on his left 00:58 Hope you had as much fun as I have with this TVC Many Kids, neatly filed for a mysterious show. I mentioned previously that I was touring schools and educating them about racial harmony and friendship day (as well as the compulsory army national service, but thats not my part). We put on a good show, I did three of them at three different schools on one occasion at the crack of dawn getting up at 5:30AM for a 7:30 show before I ran of the the shoot for the Bench in the previous entry, can't keep the ladies waiting ;) though they did turn up late anyway.. Although the subject matter of this performance couldn't be more Feh* for the students, that's where our energy comes in, I also notice how much easier it is to get luls out of primary school kids than the rebellious secondaries. I've had comments to slow down because they don't understand my Aussie Tongue, of course I delivered this. This production did mean a lot to me as I do remember what it was like to have outsiders perform something subliminally educational in my time at school, and now its Me. what i remember is the benefits are... we don't have to be in class. But really on a serious it got me to think about the racial harmony back in Sydney. These Kids don't know how easy they got it in terms of racial harmony and food, they have a damn food court for a canteen its food overkill!. Performance Rating 8.5/10 I could give more energy and more flawless lines. I finally got some photos from my last known show. Enjoy these and be nice to one another! Last Wednesday I audition for a lead role in a short film at NAFA school, which turned out to be last minute as I was required the next day and the day after that, requiring me to move another audition for day two of shoot. Despite it seemingly being disorganised because of the short notice, It turned out to be the most pleasurable production experience I have had to date, and they did deliver professionally and more on the shooting days. The casting called for a character much like myself naturally, and I got to be a dramatized me on screen. I got to keep my Aussie accent but best of all was the cast and crew, they were the most well knit, open, friendly, playful and productive and technical bunch I can think of. they were intrigued with my Australian background and I taught them some aussie Slang. In fact director Farhan told me they even named the crew "bum-chums" another slang that sticked was "she'll be right". Aside from the crew my co-stars were 2 fairly different but both beautiful ladies, Sabrina and Ashley. their characters differed with Christina being very sweet and mysterious and Ashley as the hot tempered beat me with handbag until her nail-polish bottle breaks and gives everything inside a designer splash however "beautiful no matter what emotion she was in" as my character Chris thought to himself. I got to propose to them both several times in fantasy and comical ways so I am well prepared for a engagement proposal now. As mentioned the crew was technically switched on, they knew their shots, set up accordingly and were very efficient, but magically we were having so much fun at the same time. Most of our shots even the stunts were done in two or a few takes, everyone on crew even had a cameo role like Chester pushing me to the grass, Farhan smooshing a cream roll in my face and wardrobe Shelia Hunney gave me the most painful staged slap ever (and I have been getting slapped heaps with my role as Jak Arrows, more on that later). yes they did abuse me a lot for the characters sake but were nice and apologised every time, which is really important as the subliminal psychosocial damage can add up... I think Also a special thanks to Eve and Jerrer, especially Eve who snapped some of the best production stills ever, ran it through LR and uploaded about the next day with really moving instagram*ic effects. Performance rating 9.5/10 Very close to perfection, although we were very bum chummy, perhaps if I had a bit more chemistry with the ladies for certain scenes. I also think I need to open these Asian eyes more.
2 weekends ago, (yes im closing the gap) I did a short as a paparazzo (the singular), working with Directress Francesca, from Canada. A Lasalle short about a mother who is too busy as a talk show host to look after the kids and even pays a paparazzo to snap photo of them, that's where I come in.
Francesca is an excellent family film director, she gives us plenty of ideas to internalize our emotions and thoughts in our performance. I was happy to work pro bono for her and really wish I was able to deliver in this light hearted kids drama. It was a clear example of how passion in this industry and as film makers brave through Rain and shine, Fran never Lost her cool, so nether did we. Performance Rating 7/10 Felt as much as I could for the kids but it was difficult to internalise emotions and feelings, I'm so used to pulling things out now. I did feel like I dedicated myself time and effort though. Didn't get any photos of myself on set but did snap some things on Set. Running off to another 2 auditions at NAP and then Rehearsal tonight, act harder. See the full album on FB
Performance Rating 8/10 - Attendance is good, lines are down and I'm taking directions, but need to eat earlier before class and also learn to pay attention and HOPE that our co-stars get thru their scenes more. Next is a School tourng performance about National service and Racial harmony, the rehearsals were at Joo Koon which is the maximum west/other side of the island from where I was, but cab fare was covered and it does give me time to think and measure my commitment. Luckily my role was the more minor of the 4, myself suiting the foreign character to actually promote racial harmony, somehow I always get the more minor roles, which id like to believe prevents me from certain fail. The director loved my "never say die attitude" and he proposed me to another production, however this one was in two days, required me to play 4 characters had a massive script and was about Singapore history and that would really be biting of more than I can chew, so I turned it down and part of me now does wonder how I would have done, even though I would have failed. I also signed up to be a kids party host, perhaps it is a bit embarrassing, and my skills are meant for bigger things but I do want the experience and also hey making kids laugh and smile! I begin training as an assistant this Sunday. on another note I got the lead role of Pirate Captain Jack sparrow from an audition last weekend for a touring private corporate performance to promote beer brand on Thursdays and Fridays for the next two months, more on this later. Jak Arrows. Two weeks ago I had an auditon at mediacorp, finally get to visit the behemoth-lopoly broadcast station (it owns all stations among other things) . interestingly they had their own built in hawker center! I ordered some underwhelming curry. there was some navigating to be done and I did feel like an employee finding the building and contact for the audition, which was for a lead in super natural thriller, most likely due to my fab aussie accent I didn't get a call back... how do i get this neutral thing down!? Performance rating 4/10 your accent, hardly any warm up, did not study script till last min and coming in on time and not early. More entries soon Over the weekend I did some more extra work, starting to get sick of that word, perhaps I should refer it to background artist or scene realism regulator. Anyway, on one set I was a bouncer of an A list young adult party, which my stature as still far from, had nothing else better to do that night so pushed myself for the job, as they were last minute and mysterious with it all. But there I prob had worst scene realism engineer experience on the finest set I've ever been on. it was a house that felt like a hotel lobby complete with marble floors and a glass lift and Maxi (not mini) bar. Arriving on set no one greeted me or introduced themselves, no one explained what was going on, no one told us if we were going to be fed or not (we weren't) or where we could get a drink, no one tells us good job, that was excellent, another take plz, about 20 extras were held in a room with no aircon, and when asking for it checking was needed and no response was given, no taking photos AT ALL (thats why I have none) no walking.. anywhere beyond the extras holding steam room and smoking allowed only on breaks and not just when you are not in shot, but its okay for crew, note I found all these rules out by technically breaking them, because usually its okay and no one told me as mentioned. There are many other things I can complain about because it felt like babysitting us, but in hindsight I do have to look back why did all these little things begin to matter to me being at the bottom of the talent food chain? it's because I had taken all these things for granted and perhaps I was finally breaking that cycle of being a background scene realism model. I knew that the crew needed to keep order of everyone and everything especially since it was such an exquisite property that was not theirs, and since I do have AD experience, I do understand why the pressure would have made it seem that they didn't appreciate the work that professional walking mood setting creators do, but still i realise not how much difference a nice AD can make and how many sets I have seen and can actually complain about the minor things while every other performer living in the background didn't seem to notice. I was doing them a favour, but probably ended up giving negative vibes with such attitude and thoughts on boundaries and what rights we have as background reality trance enablers. so, time to step back and look at what you have become, what you need to do and where your passion is. cause if I take on any role and do it without respect and not work within the boundaries, I will just burn passion not that it will run out any time soon, but thats no way to test it, and we all know how important a stable passion is. Sure all these perks as simple as hi and here is a drink would help with your performance, but honestly, if you were truly in the role as bouncer, you don't need it to give your best performance. As Ethan and Tif mentioned, There are no small roles, only small actors. Performance Rating 1.5/10 while My performance was probably okay, I do not remember being in the moment without thinking about all the treatment I *should* be getting. Do it with Passion and with the boundaries you are set jack. The very next morning I was on another mysterious set as background hypnotist, a slightly better story about my experience here, paid half as much and also it rained for an hour at least and i took a nap on a trolley. Performance Rating 7/10 not much else significant about this shoot, and you read my rant above already right? This is a Stray photo from last month that I didn't blog about. Extra/audience member for the Piano tuner short. It was another easy shoot, and I did spend some time editing photos. and sitting in the Bleh front stage right corner. Performance Rating: 6/10 Was an extra and didn't really get into the Pianoing thing, not that anyone complained. I also audienced for a "Dream school's" *final year performance* or some sort of competition with its equally fictional competing school "Dream academy". (its a HS musical clone I assume) coincidentally one of my fellow cast in the theatre club is a recuring cameo role from and was on set at the time. Here met "brother bear productions, which is a group of passionate high schoolers writing scripts and trying to get their first short out of the way, they start so young these days, so think big and dream regardless who you are. We were not supposed to take photos, so I'm steping somewhere in the middle here with a crap photo of what is starting to be a very distinct silhouette at least to me. Performance Rating: 8/10 for this performance I got into it bit more since I was supposed to be a teenie bopper crazed beiber fan of sorts, the Brother bear crew helped me get into this as they were avid fans and I cheered the performance with them in true obnoxious Aussie Vigour. |
The above guy is writing this blog. Thanks for taking some time to read it.
