It has been so long since I have had an article printed in the paper, Last time I think was in the MX in 2010 or something. So Sydney writer and performing arts career coach Pete Malicky hosted the World monologue games and I entered with a monologue by another filmmaker friend Forest Lin. It was a piece I auditioned with for his short film sometime last year, I didn't get the part perhaps because of my awkward kidult demeanour but the script resonated with it enough to think it would be good for this worldwide Lockdown online talent quest. The monologue is titled point of difference and explores perhaps a coming of age mixed with Asian Australian social identity dilemma. This racially charged subject matter is a niche market but an opportunity for unique drama and with the right execution could stir thought and easily be the next GET OUT. BLivestream and time-coded for your viewing pleasure. But it is 14:20 if it doesn't work Above is the live streamed video, I was a finalist for the Nationals, I didn't go on to represent Australia though but I enjoyed the Vurtua lockdown limelight for that week. I got my old Film maker mate Vinh to film my video with my newly acquired A7rii (no longer a Panny boy guys). And after being Selected as a national finalist I still was like Meh'. I knew I was going to be competing against the country's best performers so was not really expecting to get much further, hakuna matata at least till the battle dawns right. Turns out I was the only Asian face to compete at this stage too. More details after the jump.

It has been almost 2 years that I made an entry. Just getting that out of the way in shame. The world has changed in 2020 with disaster after disaster in Australia and the world, Bushfires that last for months and floods and then the Corona virus/Covid-19 worldwide pandemic to name them. The world pretty much shut down and everyone has gone into hiding, afraid to go out and afraid to interact with one another. needless to say the entertainment and film industry stopped functioning, we can't even go to the cinema. Although my work in the acting and performing field has really gone down since allergies and coming back from Singapore (what I would give to live like that or that life again) it has become even worse when I can't even point cameras at other people (for work mind you). One of the trends that picked up on FB is to post an image of yourself at work in entertainment, so naturally I went to this carcass of a blog site to look for something with me in my max element. But it just made me sad instead, Technically old links and images are dead, emotionally it all feels like it was a lifetime ago and not even relevant to me. But Damn I had a pretty sweet blog. I feel like I was such a different person to now. I can mope about it but there is no point. I MISS THIS ME and remembering this life would have made hardly as much impact without this blog, so huge pat on the back for past me. It's not just about never giving up. |
...The website builder changed significantly while I was away from it and I took a whole night to find a suitable theme and I am still not completely happy with it. Some things probably don't work others need tweeking and I miss a few old elements but it was time to change theme. Say hello to the scroll reactive banners. The news is I landed a featured extra role in the AirTasker ad.
Now it's not the most glamorous of roles being a glorified chore hand but it does get a lot of exposure, one friend reported the sighting to me on facebook (thanks Johnny) and here is his screenshot straight from his phone. The contact detailed that it will be on Australian free to air TV, Online social medias with potential for airing Britain, and Scotland, cinema and ... |

This Blog is still here! Good. Well it needs Medical attention. Just a quick update on the first shoot this year. So I was featured extra for what seems to be an independent international Chinese film. Not a bad role, seems to be my comfortable level of responsibility. Working with apparently award winning Directress from China and with Maria handling the logistics and Sydney production side of things means a I got an opportunity to audition for the role. I was worried that my newly achieved (story for that and my short hair another time) mustache and beard would hinder my appearance as a nurse but I rocked the audition and I guess it kinda made me stand out. I got to put some lines in and lead the camera at a party scene, story is a bit sappy, but in good spirit: |
Do not underestimate the power of water, your life depends on it. said a good friend of mine. Nothing washes the soul like being around water. That's why I like swimming (even though I'm not athlete good at it) and tried to take up new water sports this year. Surfing and Kayaking. |
Earlier in Feb after getting back from Singapore I decided to go surf camp to pick up another skill possibly employable in acting. Now for someone as high in dexterity as me this turned out to be a waste of money, however on the positive side there were some other things I learned.. mainly social dynamics. Follow the jump for the entry... |
